You can't get away from it -- good as Linux is, it's let down somewhat by its browser font rendering (for Firefox on CentOS, anyway).

MySiteNow-based e-commerce sites now have their own Paypal 'sandbox'. This allows e-commerce webmasters to test out their Paypal setup without getting involved in the intricacies of Paypal's sandbox.

I have just introduced a 'site icon' - the small graphic that appears in your browser's address bar - for all MySiteNow websites. Currently it's a generic 'sunrise' icon and cannot be changed. Basically it identifies your site as a MySiteNow site rather than as your site. In due course I'll add an option to define your own site icon, but this is fairly low priority at the moment.

Linux has been rather neglected up to now, both as a platform for webmasters and for end-users. I am now trying to remedy this situation. Although there aren't that many Linux desktops out there, it's an excellent platform, far less demanding of resources than even XP, and deserves to be taken seriously, particularly as it runs Firefox 3.6.

Site statistics are now available online to webmasters. They are fairly comprehensive and allow you to see which pages have been visited and how often. They also tell you who has visited each page (webmaster, members, etc.) if they log in, and how many accesses are from search engines or crawlers as opposed to humans using browsers.

MySiteNow and Dartmouth Websites used to be operated under my trading name, 'Computing for Business Unlimited' (CFBU). My new company, 'David Brown Associates Ltd' (formed today) is now the owner of both of these operations. All website business will be carried out under the auspicies of Dartmouth Websites, while programming and any other work that is not MySiteNow-related will probably be carried out under the David Brown Associates Ltd banner.

One small but irritating limitation of MySiteNow has been the fact that there was no way to enter special characters that are not included in a standard keyboard. There is a whole range of such characters, but the one that is most commonly needed is probably the 'em-dash'. This is usually entered either as a dash or as a double-dash. Another character that is not infrequently needed but unavailable is the 'copyright' symbol, often entered as '(c)'.

There have been a number of important upgrades to MySiteNow, with the result that we can now offer a wider range of page styles (including having different page styles on the same website), uploadable movies, and a built-in blog. All of these are illustrated in one way or another on this site. When you add these features to the existing range of components you have a very powerful and sophisticated platform for building websites.
